SHOPPING IN SINGAPORE
Tips & Caution

Opening Times: shopping centers are usually open from 10.00 to 21.00 daily but a few of them may close during Chinese New Year or public holidays, while the most open until 23.00 instead of closing.

Prices and Bargains: please compare prices among different department stores before making a purchase as fixed prices are the rule at many shopping centers and retail outlets here. But if you want to buy something from shops that insist bargaining, then go ahead asking for the "best price" and start bargaining if their best price doesn't grant your expectation. Electricity goods are very popular here and always remember to check it first before buying.

Payment: Be careful! No additional SURCHARGE can be taken along with the use of credit cards in Singapore. All major credit cards are accepted here, as well as traveler's checks.

Money Changers: "Licensed Money Changer" is the label that can be used here and is sold along Orchard Road as well as big shopping centers.

Deposits: making the deposit first and followed by the full sum payment when the products are finished is a good idea, especially tailor-made suits or clothes.

Product Exchanges: most of bigger shops are willing to exchange the returned undamaged products or even refund the price of goods. But most family-run shops won't allow so that you should check the products twice before leaving the shops.

Goods and Services Tax (GST): All products and services in Singapore are usually charged with 4% tax. And remember that GST is only applied to GST-registered traders. One thing all visitors should take note and be cautious is that smaller shops always collect no GST due to their free-tax goods.

Delivery: larger shops offer delivery if your purchase reaches their fixed-amount of money, or a delivery surcharge is offered as well.
